Self Defence Courses

Self-defence is a set of awareness, avoidance, assertiveness and verbal confrontation skills with safety strategies and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully be aware of and avoid, resist or survive violent attacks. A good self-defence course provides psychological, awareness and verbal skills not only physical training and most importantly explains the self-defence law.

Essentially my courses differ from any other in that you do not need to be trained repetitively on an ongoing basis. I believe self-defence is so vitally important that it can’t take you 3, 4 or 6 months before you are trained and only able to defend yourself is parts over this period. In one session you will acquire all the basic skills you need to survive.

Self-defence is really easy to learn, all techniques are based on your instinctive reaction to danger and unlike martial arts (karate for example) doesn’t take months and years to learn. SDTA will train you to effectively deal with all kinds of real world threats and attacks. You will learn to identify a threat and how to stop/defuse a threat before it escalates into violence. The best outcome is always to safely remove yourself from the situation without fighting. However this is not always possible and you might find yourself in a situation where your life or the life of a colleague/loved-ones depends on your ability to fight. My system has been designed by me and trained to law enforcement and military units around the world and tested and proven in conflict zones around the globe.

Training can be provided in the comfort of your own home or a venue of your choosing subject to the number of participants.

  1. Bully Defence Course

(Duration ± 3 hours)

The Bully Defence Course is aimed at school children and equips children to stand up to and report on bulling at school. It is recommended that a parent also complete this course to exercise learnt techniques at home. After completing this course you will be knowledgeable of the following aspects.

  • What Is Bullying?
  • Self Defence Law
  • Defence formula – Avoid, Deter, Defuse, Evade, Response & Escape

  • Defence against punches, kicks, elbows, knees and other attacks
  1. Self Defence Insight Course

(Duration ± 3 hours)

The Insight Course is an introduction to self defence training. After completing this course you will be knowledgeable of the following aspects.

  • Self Defence Law
  • Defence formula – Avoid, Deter, Defuse, Evade, Response & Escape
  • Understanding and Controlling Fear
  • Vulnerable Areas to attack
  • Combatives
  • Pre-emptive Strikes and Fighting Tactics
  • Defence against punches, kicks, elbows, knees and other attacks
  • Anti-hijack principles
  1. Basic Self Defence Course

(Duration ± 6 hours)

The Basic Self Defence Course covers all the following aspects. After completing this course you will be able to defend yourself against most attacks.

  • Self Defence Law
  • Defence formula – Avoid, Deter, Defuse, Evade, Response & Escape
  • Understanding and Controlling Fear
  • Vulnerable Areas to attack
  • Combatives
  • Pre-emptive Strikes and Fighting Tactics

  1. Intermediate Self Defence Course

(Duration ± 6 hours)

The Intermediate Self Defence Course covers aspects not covered in the Basic Self Defence Course . After completing this course you will be able to defend yourself against chokes, hold & grabs, attackers armed with weapons and multiple attackers.

  • Revision of Self Defence Law
  • Revision of Basic Self Defence Course
  • Releasing and Counter Attacking all chokes, holds and grabs
  • Defence against attackers armed with weapons
  • Defence against multiple attackers
  • Fighting on the ground
  • Anti-hijack techniques
  1. Tactical Knife Fighting Course

(Duration ± 6 hours)

The Tactical Knife Fighting Course covers all the following aspects. After completing this course you will be able to defend yourself against most attacks using a knife.

  • Self Defence Law
  • Defence formula – Avoid, Deter, Defuse, Evade, Response & Escape
  • Understanding and Controlling Fear
  • Deployment
  • Knife Combatives
  • Combinations
  • Defence against attackers armed with weapons
  • Counters
  • Defence against multiple attackers
  • Fighting on the ground
All you need to bring with is: 

  • T shirt, tracksuit bottoms/training trousers/PT-shorts and training shoes/trainers
  • Towel
  • Completed Registration Form and Proof of Payment
  • Note book and pen
  • Something to eat and drink

Although we teach very aggressive self defence tactics, there is no ego, no testosterone and definitely no posers.  We train normal people, like you and your loved ones, essential life saving skills to protect yourself and/or your loved ones. You will sweat a lot, have fun and meet new friends all while learning important self defence techniques. Training is provided in a relaxed but structured manner.
